TRAINING AT AMO
Until recently, the Pre-Service training curriculum of Ghana’s Colleges of Education gave minimal attention to working with learning materials.Due to this, teachers who want to be relevant in the field seek retraining so they can provide proper hands-on experiences for their students.
‘Training’ is a verb and in order to be effective, training must be on-going and not an isolated one-time event in the work place. Without continuous training, teachers will eventually begin to teach as they were taught in their school days and not as they have been trained to at the college.

WORKSHOPS AT AMO
Our Workshops are interactive and full of activity to encourage the participants to immediately try the new skills, unlearn bad habits and progress into replacing them with new techniques back on the job.
For teachers and educators, our workshops aim at improving effectiveness, improving team morale, improving knowledge, attitude and educational behaviour, reducing supervisory needs and improving organizational flexibility and viability.

1.1 Introductory Workshop
This Workshop takes about three hours and is most effective when it can take place on location with all the teachers from a school. It is designed for first time users of active learning materials so participants get acquainted with ALMs and get to experience active learning situations. Guided by manuals, teachers prepare and deliver mini lessons generally 10-15 minutes long after which they receive feedback.
1.2 In-service Training for Teachers
Teachers who have been introduced to active learning methods often require follow-up training to reinforce their grasp of concepts thus enhancing their confidence in providing child-centred learning experiences. Through collaborative group work, participants have further practice with ALMs exploring varied ways to use the ALMS. There is Coaching & Mentoring.
1.3 Curriculum Application Training
In order to be effective, training must be on-going and not an isolated one-time event. Without continuous training, teachers will eventually begin to teach as they were taught in their school days and not as they have been trained to at the college. At these workshops, we revisit active learning methods. We break down the GES curriculum and look to identify places where ALMS are applicable. We emphasize the importance of Reflection in the learning encounter.
1.4 Certificate Training Course (Planning stage)
We are looking to introduce certificate courses for individuals who have passion for active learning and want to commit to it. Our modules will cover the Background of GES Curriculum, Active Learning Principles, Facilitation and Coaching during learning, Organization of lessons and classroom and many more.
1.5 Online Training Courses (Planning stage)
We are looking to set up an online platform to which caregivers and educators will subscribe and access live/recorded lessons and inspiring content designed to motivate them to commit to the child and active learning methods in the Ghanaian context. We will follow this with formalised certificate courses hosted online. Teachers who enrol can access modules and receive a certificate.
1.6 Educational Management Skills
Moreover, we are working on a special Training Programme for Management Behaviour within Schools. How can Managers support Active Learning in the school situation and their teachers? What type of focus is necessary for excellent schoolwork?
